Description
A Class Lecture by eminent Australian Astrologer Joy Usher.
Terminations : Boundaries : Limits : Fortitude
The Terms (terminations) or Bounds (boundaries) are the fourth level of the five Essential Dignities and differ from the first two Dignities – Rulership and Exaltation – in that the Terms take a sign’s degrees into account when allocating a lord to assist the planet to achieve its potential. The Sun and Moon play no part in the Terms, leaving a fivefold division of the signs grouped in degrees, and governed by one of the five planets: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus or Mercury.
When thinking about boundaries and terminations it is useful to apply an allegory that relates these terms to fences or allocated pastures. To think about how a planet might represent weather protection, accessibility, design, and food and shelter requirements for the animal enclosed within its fences. First century astrologer Vettius Valens provided short descriptions on the terms and based on his work, the lecture explores how the five planets might provide a deeper understanding of how the Terms relate to the degrees of the zodiac and how knowing the Term Ruler helps in the judgement of a planet’s condition.
